Charlie waited for Tadgh for an hour. After talking to Sean, she’d been ready. Liam had taken a particularly brutal hunk out of him. Insinuating he hadn’t been doing enough to find the killers. She understood, to a degree. Tadgh was an easy target. He was a nice guy. The best. He wouldn’t retaliate. He’d take the blows and walk away because he knew that Liam was hurting. Not that he was some sort of pussy. He was smart and sharp and tough. He was as strong as they came, both physically and in his character. But his family was his weak spot, his kryptonite. She’d never known such a close family. He would give Liam his pound of flesh, even if it was not his responsibility to give it.

He’d undoubtedly convinced himself that somehow Liam was right. She’d thought the same thing. Not about Tadgh’s work, but her own. They’d been running in circles, half in the dark. This witness, however. This was the break they needed. And that phone. It was smashed, but that could be worked around depending on how bad the damage was. She needed to access a tech savvy person. Someone who wouldn’t screw up this crucial piece of evidence collection.

She checked the time. She’d called her boss, giving him an update. He had been taken aback by the turn of events, but glad, as they all were, that the woman had survived. And that Eve had been heard on recording and seen by the victim taking video of the assailants. If that video survived, it could be a game changer. She hadn’t heard from Tadgh. He was off somewhere, coming to terms with everything. He wasn’t with Sal. She’d checked. Everyone had needed sleep. Sal was at home. As if on cue, he called her.

“Think, Charlie. Where would he go? I don’t want to bother the family. I don’t want to worry them. Where would he go to clear his head?”

She was rubbing her brows, exhausted. Then it hit her. “I know where he is.”
